Mezzie + Frank Hardy Clear Coat is a pure acrylic sealer suitable for application over Mezzie + Frank products to improve serviceability. The clear acrylic sealer will change the appearance of the base material, intensifying the colour and providing a low sheen finish.

Hardy clear coat is an acrylic sealer and is an alternative to waxing.  Our Hardy Clear Coat is extremely durable and suitable for high traffic areas such as floors and table tops.  Applying correctly will result in a clear matte finish to protect your piece.

We recommend using a Slica when painting with the clear coat to prevent rust occurring in the rim of the can and prolonging the life of the product.

SUITABILITY AND PREPARATION

Mezzie + Frank clear acrylic sealer is formulated for direct application to completely dry surfaces. Suitable for interior use only.

APPLICATION

Care should be taken when applying Hardy Clear Coat to eliminate dry lapping and re-working as these can cause milkiness in the finish. This is particularly important when over coating darker colours. This is done by thinning the first coat with 25% water and maintaining a wet edge across each surface. Application should be carried out without brushing back over any areas that may have started drying off.

One or two coats should be applied by brush to a fully dry surface. Allow a minimum of 2 hours between coats.

COVERAGE AND CLEAN UP

Covers approximately 9mover Mezzie + Frank Chalk Effects furniture paint.

Wash brushes in water.

Hardy Clear Coat is an alternative finish to waxing.

How to Apply

Surface Preparation

One of the advantages of Mezzie + Frank Chalk Effects Paint is its self-priming nature, which minimises the need for extensive preparation. However, for optimal adhesion and finish, consider the following steps:

  • Clean the Surface: Remove dust, grease, and grime using a mild detergent and water. Ensure the surface is dry before painting.
  • Sand if Necessary: While sanding is often unnecessary, lightly sanding glossy or uneven surfaces can enhance paint adhesion.
  • Repair Imperfections: Fill any holes or cracks with appropriate filler and sand smooth once dry.
Painting Steps
  1. Mix Paint: Ensure the paint is well-mixed before application.
  2. First Coat: Apply the first coat evenly, following the grain of the wood or the direction of the surface. Allow it to dry completely, typically within 1-2 hours.
  3. Second Coat: Apply a second coat if necessary for full coverage. This coat will also dry within 1-2 hours.

M + F Chalk Effects can be applied with a paintbrush, paint roller or paint sprayer.

Sealing

Hardy Clear Coat: A pure acrylic sealer that intensifies the base colour and provides a low-sheen, matte finish. It's ideal for high-traffic areas like tabletops and floors. Apply one or two coats with a brush, roller or sprayer, allowing at least two hours between coats. For darker colours, thin the first coat with 25% water to prevent milkiness.

Gilly's Carnauba Polish: A fast-drying wax finish rich in carnauba and beeswax, offering a high sheen when buffed. It's suitable for decorative pieces and can be applied with a cloth in a circular motion, then buffed after 20–30 minutes. Up to three coats can be applied for increased protection and shine.
