Choosing a Finish: Wax vs Acrylic

Choosing the right finish for your project is essential to achieve both the desired aesthetic and durability. Our recommended finish options are Mezzie + Frank Hardy Clear Coat and Gilly's Carnauba Polish. Each offers distinct characteristics suited to different applications and preferences.

Hardy Clear Coat: Durable Acrylic Sealer

Hardy Clear Coat is a pure acrylic sealer designed to enhance and protect surfaces painted with Mezzie + Frank Chalk Effects Paint. It intensifies the base colour and provides a low-sheen, matte finish. This clear coat is particularly suitable for high-traffic areas such as floors and tabletops, offering a durable alternative to traditional waxing. Its application involves brushing, rolling or spraying one or two coats onto a fully dry surface, with a minimum of two hours between coats. For optimal results, especially over darker colours, it's recommended to thin the first coat with 25% water to prevent milkiness and ensure a smooth finish.

Gilly's Carnauba Polish: High-Sheen Wax Finish

Gilly's Carnauba Polish is a fast-drying surface finish rich in carnauba wax and beeswax. This polish is ideal for surfaces that have been previously waxed or oiled and is also suitable for non-porous surfaces like metal, marble, slate, and concrete. When used over Chalk Effects paint, it provides a silky wax feel and enhances the finish's depth. Application involves spreading the polish sparingly over the surface in a circular motion, buffing vigorously with a soft cloth, and allowing 20–30 minutes between coats. Up to three coats can be applied for increased sheen and protection .
